Re: broken key

Easier just to buy a switch, they are sealed units.

Re: broken key

if you have a spare key than you can try what i did. I took the other half of key that was broken off put a SMALL drop of super glue on it and put it back together it worked for me I was able to get the key out and continue with my spare. however if you do not have a spare key and dont want to spend 30$ then just glue the heck out of it and shove it on. youll never lose your key lol

Re: broken key

Sure, super glue anything handy onto it and pull it out. Use the piece to have a new key made, or use your spare. Now lessee, where did you put that spare, anyway?

Re: broken key

Make or borrow from a locksmith a broken key extractor. Grind down the smooth back of a jigsaw blade so the height is less than height of the keyway. This makes one type. Second is bend the tip of a diaper pin to create a hook, this allows you to depress the blades/pins of the lock and catch one of the cuts in the broken section to pull it out. Third type is piece of spiral saw blade from a coping saw, fish out the same way. Check the internet, broken key extractor set, and you should find some pictures. Regards, John

Re: broken key

I pulled the backing plate off my ignition from my OMC control box. Pushed the barrell out and removed my broken key. Put it all back together and superglued and seald the ignition unit back together :) works a treat

Jeez it's just an ignition switch, they aren't made of 18 carat gold. Just replace it , you get 2 keys and it replaces the old switch.

Yes but he just saved himself a few bucks. I cant blame him one bit I have come up with an alternate solution for myself instead of replacing a perfectly good switch. Save it where you can so you can use it when you need. Obviously exceptions apply. I would not glue my impeller back together.
