Alternate choices for fuel strainers?

Hey guys and gals,

Since my last problem when I had debris in my fuel tank I have been running a glass bowl strainer similar to the ones they used on the older ford pickups. How ever napa stopped producing the screens for it. So now I have a new problem. I already have a filter/seperator but I ran the strainer before that to catch the big stuff. Are they any options for me? I would really like a seperator that would allow the debris to fall to the bottom where the water will collect for easy cleaning. But after alot of googling i have not been able to come up with anything. What would you recommend to me to catch the larger stuff from the tank.

My tank is aluminum and is breaking down yes I should replace the tank however a strainer is cheaper and easier.

Thank you.

Racor makes water separating filter assemblies with clear lower sections and drain valves for dumping collected water and trash.

I have looked at those but had a few people at the local shop defer me from that. They agree there great filters however dont think that the trash would settle in the bottom and would get caught in the filter thus not letting me visually see that it is time for a cleaning or change. I argued the way a fuel filter works is that fuel drops straight down the center and is pulled through the filter aspect of it i.e. the sides and to the engine. They disagreed I didnt feel like fighting them. Thank you.

I use a racor 12 series on my fuel system. Not only do the bigger chunks fall to the bottom where they can be removed but any water/ethanol issues can be drained off with a convenient petcock. The filter itself is available in a 2 micron media at a flow rate of 15 gallons per hour which is sufficient for MOST applications.

will the racor 12 be enough to supply fuel to my 89 150? pre-mixed oil.

becuase i have found several great filters that will do what i want however will not let the oil pass through well enough.

First of all, no filter will stop oil mixed with gas, since the oil is in solution. There is no listing for a Racor "12", so I have no idea what that is. A Racor 320R-RAC-01 has more than enough capacity for you motor, a clear lower bowl and a drain valve. You need a filter with a 10 micron filter media to stop all water, though. The above filter assembly has that.

thank you. im just going by what the 'pros' at napa are telling me. and there telling me that the automobile filters that would work in my application will not easily let the oil pass. i dont know im not a filter expert. but ill be sure to check that filter you described. thank you for your help.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

The Racor fuel filter 320r-rac-01 filter is great! Was a little pricey I found it on ebay though with an extra element for a great price!

I would gladly tell any one to pick this filter up! A true life saver. Havent had any issues this year so far debris in my carbs. Such a great filter you would never know how much water and crap you pick up in your fuel until you have a truely good filter straining it. I think Ive already got my share of water out that my last filter never even showed me. The drain valve at the bottom makes life easy!

thank you again to every one here and all your wisdom!
