Re: Wards Sea King 9

Could you provide the model number for that outboard, please. That way, we can look it up and see who made it for Wards.

The more information you supply, the better the help you get.

That should be VWB, not VMB, in the model number. It's a 1966, made by Chrysler for MW. I don't know the carb settings for that model. The water in your gearcase oil could come from either the fill and drain plugs not sealing properly or a bad seal in the lower unit.

Parts for that 9.2 hp model can be very hard to find. It's too old for Sierra to carry parts, or at least to list them, and most other parts sources don't list that model.

You may be able to come up with a manual for your outboard on ebay or an aftermarket manual that covers Chrysler small outboards along with others.

Your outboard may also have some things in common with the 9.9 hp models that came later, but I don't know.

I haven't worked on any of the Chryslers, I'm afraid.

More info. The Chrysler model numbers that may match your engine include 9601, 9602, or 9641. I can't find any further descriptions, though, of those Chrysler models.

1966 was only a year after Chrysler bought West Bend, so there also may be similarities to West Bend outboards from the period just before that.

The one thing I have discovered in a google search is that almost nobody even mentions these 9.2 hp models. What that means is that parts are going to be very difficult to come by. I also couldn't find any manuals anywhere, even on ebay. Someone did have a parts manual for a 1968 9.2 hp, and that may well be of some help to you.

I know this is frustrating, but it's entirely possible that nobody here has ever worked on that model of outboard. What that means is that there may not be any direct experience that can help you.

I suspect you're in for a tough time with your outboard, I'm sorry to say.
