Well today i picked up a 12ft livingston that is in ok shape. only paid $100 for it. I am going to do some glass work on it, sand it, paint it, build a removable casting deck, add a couple seats to sit in, and get it ready for the summer. Here are the first pics, and there will be a lot more to follow!

Lookin forward to your progress!

Picked up some supplies from the hardware store. I got the new floors cut out and laid in the boat (the fiberglass was old and had some flex to it). I am going to be glassing those in place. One they are glassed in place, I will be flipping it to sand and paint the bottom.

Ok so I know that this whole truck liner in boats is a huge debate, and i also know that this dupli-color stuff is not very good. However they had it on sale, So i am planning on using it to coat the interior of the livingston. I am hoping it will turn out.

More to come later....

Got the boat flipped, gave it a quick sanding, and then got the first coat of paint of on it. 3-4 more coats and it will be looking good! Here are the pics of the first coat. I will post pictures when it is finished next.

Here is what she is looking like right now, I have 1 more coat to do once this one dries. I decided against the red and just painted her black.

Got the boat flipped over, put down another coat of resin, cut and laid out the carpet, all i need to do is glue the carpet in, and cut a piece for the back. after that i will start on the removable casting deck.

my wife has the good camera so these were taken with my phone.

Isaacm1986,

What brand/kind of paint did you use on the exterior of the hull? And how did you apply it?

The hull is painted with rustoleum professional oil based paint. It is tough stuff, and there are a lot of people here on iboats that use it. It is also cheap, $26 a gallon at lowes or home depot.

It is applied with a 6" foam roller. I used penetrol additive in the paint, which eliminates roller marks and brush marks.

Works great, this is the 4th boat i have painted now with this stuff. I really like it.

Hope this helps.

Isaacm1986,

Any special primer or surface prep before the top coat, other than sanding?

Regards,
Coho Ghost

Since mine was just a little fishing boat, All i did was gave it a quick sand.

The bigger boats i have done, I sanded with 80grit and worked my way through 400 grit. Then between each coat of paint, I wet sanded with 1500 grit. Turned out really well, has a nice deep gloss shine to it. here is a picture of the boat.

the biggest i have seen is 15ft. I dont think i have ever seen a 16ft around here.

These livingstons are super common up here, and cheap.

Here is how she is looking now. Had her in the water for a couple hours the other day and she is doing great! I am really loving how stable these things are!

Hey Isaacm1986,
Any new pictures of your Livingston? I just picked up a 12 footer today and will be fixing it up over the winter. What size motor did you go with? Any pointer or comments on prep, painting or set-up would be welcome.

Thanks.
