Hi, I took apart my 1985 8 Hp Evinrude powerhead and dropped some needle bearings from the powerhead into the lower unit .

I'm wondering how many needles are in each of part #0396068 LINERS & NEEDLES, Rod and 0391267 NEEDLE SET, Center main ?

Any help would be greatly apreciated.

Thanks

When all else fails, there is a stock answer for any motor: As many as it will hold. You will always end up with a space between needles, always less than 1 needle wide. If that space is wide enough to put another needle in and still have a space left over, one is missing. If there is no space at all (jam-up tight) you are trying to cram too many in.

EDIT: By "space" I mean on the order of a few thousandths of an inch, not a honkin' big gap.

Thanks for the help, part list doesn't say the number of needles in it though. I guess I'll have to try the other method.
