Heres my rant started looking for my first boat, a used one in Dec. here in wisconsin, found some interested in but then found exactly what I wanted 17ft bowrider with outboard. Went and looked at it and talked to the guy-good guy and we agreed on a price over the phone a week later. He told me he was gonna get it tuned up and have the gear lube changed and he'd call me when he did that in spring, I told him great when he brings it in I will pay to get the motor compression tested and lower unit tested and boat checked over before we took it out for a drive together. Anyway over the next couple of months I would send him emails and called him a few times just to keep in touch and ask him questions I forgot to previously. Fast forward to april he tells me he'll get in to shop first weekend, don't hear anything so I email says he'll get it second weekend same thing again says he'll get in in and let me know-nothin. So I call the shop just to let them know what I want done when the boat comes in-they tell me they just finished with it and everything checked out great, the owner told them to have this done for me and document it. Now I'm confused he never told me when he took it in or that he picked it up. Last time I talked to him was almost two weeks ago. He won't return my emails-we had planned on completing the sale end of april. He has been very nice through all of this till this last month- I'm hoping he is just busy and not blowing me off because I have passed on looking at a lot of boats recently. Sorry for the rant just damned frustrated-by the way this site rocks.

Well stuff like that is common, just make sure you dont come off as a nuisance. even though your buying it, he may get annoyed with loads of questions. I bought a boat back in march..and it took me 4 weeks from the day i looked and settled at a price to get it. Dmv problems etc. But i kept on him and he always answered..

I hope it's something common and he is just busy. I probably have been annoying him a little with the emails but I just want some kind of reply. I have some trips planned coming up that I planned on bringing the boat and just think it's strange that all of a sudden he won't return my emails.

Hate to say it, but perhaps the boat was in BETTER shape than the price he negotiated and settled for...I'd just be straightforward and ask do we still have a deal..

and watch to see if it gets relisted @ a higher $$

I learned never to rely on people for something like this. If I were you, I'd keep looking for boats. You never know when you might find something else you like better! They're out there. There's nothing worse than getting your heart set on something, and then having somebody dash your hopes by not keeping their word. Someone else could come by and offer more, a relative may say they want it, etc........I hope that doesn't happen and it sounds like the guy has taken steps toward completing the sale with you by taking it in to get it checked out which seems like a good sign. However, not answering emails after quite a few days would make me a little leery as well.
It won't hurt to keep looking. After all, you haven't bought one yet. It could keep you from being totally bummed if you find out the guy is backing out of the sale, to have other boats you're interested in.
Good luck,

Did you put cash down on the boat? Have a sales price, in writing, on the signed and dated receipt?

If so, tell him to execute and complete the sale.
If not, start looking for another boat.
