why are my rpms increasing?

I recently installed a new binnacle and Morse redjacket cables to my 2002 Johnson 90hp. but wen I put the rpms up to 1500(out of gear and earmuffs on) the motor will steadily increase rpms by itself. It creeps up to 2k then 3k then rapidly tops out. I tried looking for any moving parts but noticed nothing...any more troubleshooting methods or ideas out there?

Because you have been a naughty boy.:p

Its called runaway, the engine will run faster with the same fuel by going leaner, it can do this simply because its on the garden hose, aka unloaded.
A barrel of water will stop it from doin that.
You can easily throw a rod if it runs away, kill it by choking.

I had a small 2 stroke engine throw the prop yrs ago, you shoulda heard that one scream with zero load.

Re: why are my rpms increasing?

Well that's what I pretty much figured, but I have been given mixed opinions from co-workers that had me second guessing myself and thought I'd done something wrong. But I have another issue..wen its in the water and I put it into gear, it bogs and nearly dies wen I give it the slightest bit of throttle. Can this be caused by not having the new throttle cable fine tuned like the original? Like maybe the cable is opening the carb to much?
