A family friend recently offered to give me a 1979 Century Cortez. I do not know the exact length or the engine size. I do know that it has twin motors and is in need of a little attention. I am just wondering if it would be worth bringing back to good health or should I pass? I was told that the motors were running when it was parked 3 years ago. I have tried to find information on the internet but I couldnt find anything.

Back in the day I had a friend who had that boat. It's an express cruiser and I think it was a 30 footer. We went out a few times before he moved away and sold the boat. I remember it being very comfortable.
Not positive, but I think it had twin inboards with V drives.
IMO if you can get it running with minimal cost, it just might be worth it.
I think it's too wide to trailer without a permit, so you should plan where to keep it before taking ownership.

The motors are 350 Mercruisers, I do not know what the drives are.

I also had a freind who had one--his had twin Merc 260's and Alpha drives--I'm guessing that one has something close-pre alphas ect. My biggest worry would be that you would spend FAR more than the boat will ever be worth to bring it back to good shape--3-5000 for canvas--drive work-engine work---not to mention that that age of boat probably needs some kind of glass work--rotten floors-deck-hull???? Maybe take the boat for free--strip it for parts--scrap the rest---good luck

That was my feeling, that it needed probably around 4-5000 in repairs, not including any glass work. I think ill have to pass on this one.
