I just did an alarm check and when I grounded the port temp sensor I get light but no alarm sound? My guess is the buzzer is dead since i get a light. where the heck is the buzzer in the controller? How do I test it to see if its working. I installed a new tach with the check engine lights that come on and go out when you turn the Key. My engine is a 150 HP 1996 J150SLEDB. I dont get a chirp when I turn the key either.

Please point me in the right directions with a picture or a diagram.

Thanks

Re: No sound from the alarm?

I split the case on the control box and I see no buzzer inside. I traced wires and I have six wires that come out near the plug that goes to the tackometer. One set has a black purple and white that have very small eyelets on them. The others look like they were cut and they are black purple and grey. I guess I can assume they went to a horn in the dash?

Help please I dont want to run without an alarm buzzer.

I think it is a tan wire that runs to the alarm..look near your key switch or in your dash for one. your manual should have the proper wiring diagram so that you can wire in a new horn if yours is missing/broken..them little horns are not cheap either. someone told me that radio shack has a 12v horn that works for much cheaper.

Re: No sound from the alarm?

I dont have a manual I bought the motor used but I do have a repair manual but I can not find where it says alarm. I didnt see on in the control box but I am going back in for a second look now that I know what I am looking for. Tan wire.

Thanks for your help. I read someplace that a 1996 might now sound an alarm without the engine actually running? can someone confirm this?

Re: No sound from the alarm?

it sounds like you have a system check gauge.
when you ground the tan wire with key on hot light should come on, no horn unless motor is running.
warning horn should be mounted under dash.
Horn makes a beep when key turned from off to on.
Horn requires a tach signal to sound when fault detected.

Re: No sound from the alarm?

Ok we are getting some place? what would the hook up of the horn under the dash be? what color wires? there is a plug that has a white wire with blue strip and purple. Is that what plugs into a horn? Thanks I bought the motor used and I might not have gotten the horn under the dash? can someone point me to one on the internet?

Thanks again

Re: No sound from the alarm?

Can I use any type of horn or buzzer for this under the dash as long as its 12 volts? does it need to the one for OMC?

Re: No sound from the alarm?

my thoughts are that a 12v horn is a 12v horn..but I know that todays motors have different patterns of horn blast to tell different problems and also have a test beep when key is first turned. If you just want over heat buzzer, I would think any 12v horn would do.
