Hi Folks

New to sight and seems you are the guys that can help.
try to keep simple. have 1996 -70hp, kept blowing smoke and little water out of pee hole and alarm sounded, turned off let cool down, on again 10 min full throttle , had good stream, lost it than alarm, motor got so hot wouldnt turn over and alarm always rang for an hour with just ignition turned. left boat from aggravation. came back day later, boat fired first turn and alarm still sounding, ive searched sight before posted, saw answers from back flushing, impellers, clogged cooling ports, but alarm still sounding after a full day of rest???
any steps to start trouble shooting would be so appreciative, always was easy to hop in someone elses boat and fish and never deal with owner boat issues, now have boat and the fun begins
thanks guys

You got the head SOOOO hot you melted the sending unit. It's no longer any good. You'll need to replace.
If your lucky you didn't do any damage to the motor.
Spray a little(just a little)WD in the cylinders and then do a compression test.

Bingo. Also possible the sender wire shorted to GND somewhere due to heat/chafe/etc.
