I have a 92 25 hp Johnson that starts and runs Great, all manual start, steer, shift and throttle. When I let it idle a few minutes and then get ready to go again I can barely give it gas and it starts surging like crazy. Raps out then dies down and will not level out. Have run it without problem for 6 years, runs and starts great, but has always done this. Resolve, don't let it idle as it starts right up one half pull. Any ideas would be great, would like to stop this but don't want to mess up a good thing as everything else about it has been smooth and dependable...

Re: 92 25hp surging after idle

Thanks tashasdaddy, I am taking it out tomorrow I will check that out. I have not wanted to touch anything because it runs so great now. It uses little fuel and as quick as I can spin the throttle it gets up to speed without hesitation. I can kill it after it starts the surging, it will fire right up on half a pull as usual but will still surge if I twist the throttle. It has never done this just running and stopping and starting all day, only if I leave idling for more than a few minutes. I thought maybe the coils were getting hot and breaking down ??? Don't know just didn't want to mess with a good thing. Thanks again for the advice.

Sounds like a short somewhere between the boat seat and the tiller handle.

Oh now that's just mean.:D:D Cool name by the way.

I wondering if maybe there may be intermitten spark on one cylinder too. I would check over all your electrical connections dealing with your ignition system and see that everything is clean.

Thanks zephyr, I'll check it out. Ran and started great the other day. Was fishing too hard to play with it.
As for my little brother, I try not to acknowledge his teretic outburts; love ya Chris...
