Welcome and Question

Hello everyone. I just found this forum and I am very impressed. Lots of great advice. My name is Bruce, I have lived in Windsor Locks, CT for most of my life. I spent most of my summers as a kid-young adult at a campground in Salem, CT on the beautiful Gardiner Lake. It is a big, busy lake with lots of boats. So I'm not an absolute stranger to boats, BUT I have an issue.
You see I sell things on Ebay for a local car dealer friend of mine. So I get this call one day not too long ago. He says, "Bruce, wait till you see these boat I bought for you to sell." "One is a 1976 Bayliner, and I don't know what the other one is". I was almost instantly sick to my stomach, LOL.
So he gets them back to the storage lot and this is what I see.

I hope this isn't too "needy" of a first post. But I have no idea what we have, or how much to ask for them. I have found that the green one is a Silverline. Any help or advice will be GREATLY appreciated. I posted them on Hartford, CT Craigslist and someone is interested in the Silverline, but I don't know a fair price to ask. PLEASE help.

Re: Welcome and Question

  • Get the two trailers in decent shape (That's the fastest/best investment).
  • Focus on the Merc outboard motor next. If she is decent, that is your next fastest/best investment.

The smaller boat is practically worthless. The bigger boat needs more pics and info so we can understand the condition.

Re: Welcome and Question

They are far from beauty queens, that's for sure. Unfortunately I don't have much time to tinker with them at all. So basically I need to know what they are worth as they sit  I could check to see that the engines are free but other than that I can't put any time into them.

Ayuh,... Pretty much NOTHING....

You have a couple of used trailers, possibly an outboard, a few loose Parts,+ the Liability of disposing of the hulls...
As they sit, they're worth wantever you have to Pay somebody to haul 'em away...

Re: Welcome and Question

You got some white elephants there. I'd say both boats are worthless. Nothing like devaluing a trailer and motor than to stick a boat on it. I'd pull the outboard and check compression, if good and you don't want to mess with it any farther I'd ask $100-150. Unles you want to strip parts off the boats I'd pull them to the dump and offload the boats and sell the trailers. I'm guessing several hundred for each trailer. There are actually a lot of parts on those boats that could be stripped and sold, I'd bet a few K if you consider motor parts, windshields controls ect. But that takes time and willingness and they are worth nothing attached to the boat. These are good projects for teenagers. Let them strip and sell the boat parts and keep the money for a car.

Edit: if the barrels aren't used for floatation you can get 10 bux apiece for those!

Re: Welcome and Question

That is what I was figuring. I thought about launching them in the river and leaving the plug out. JUST KIDDING! Well there is an ***** for every seat, so lets hope I find one to fill these.
If in the future I have to junk them I will post a parts thread. But I'm going to try to get rid of them whole.

Free boats. Not worth a second of your time, although the OB if the crank turns might be of interest to the right person. Put it upright on a rack. However, it's not worth what you have to do to get rid of the junk.

Keep the barrels, though.

I love the big INOP sticker. Must have come from an auction. It would be fun to have some stickers like that to stick on friend's boats--like a "kick me" sign.

Re: Welcome and Question

Well, I have an update. I sold the Silverline, but the hull is on Hartford, CT craigslist for free if anyone is interested. I still have the big Bayliner. Wish me luck for getting rid of that one.
