I just recently purchased my first boat and the motor that came with it is a 1985 Suzuki dt 115. The motor has been setting for years, and it doesn't have hardly any hours on it at all. I started it up with the muffs on it, and there is no water coming out the discharge hole. I'm not sure if the thermostat can cause that problem, or if it needs a new water pump. I am not very familiar with boats with outboard motors, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Mud daubers play hell. lol Try and run a thin wire down the pee hole and see if it is obstructed. Your tube maybe clogged and this would be a simple fix. Even if your water pump was bad I'd think the pressure from the hose would be enough to make it pee. Good Luck!!

when i put water in the pee hole it ran out around the proprler. I tryed a newer set of muffs and now the water runs out of the vents just above the propler?

Where are you putting the muffs? if i am understanding you correctly the muffs should go on the vents that you are describing.

Not clear in your response...

My 1983 DT 50 has a drain down hole located on the transom side of the exhaust housing, above the water intake screens. Might this be what your referring to as vents?

When using muffs I can sometimes get water out this opening

Im putting the muffs on the vents on the side just above and behind the propeler, But the water is coming out in the flat part directly above the propeller. the flat spot is facing down.

O.k. good chance if it has been sitting up for a while you need to go ahead a replace the t-stat and water pump any way. Get a repair manual that covers your o/b and follow instructions on how to replace them both. Be sure when you have it apart that you check the tubes for pieces of the old impeller and any other debris that could cause clogging. Flush the tube the best you can to insur this.

If your not mechanically inclined I suggest taking it to an o/b repair shop to avoid doing it wrong and causeing unneeded expences and further problems, but if you are handy it really isn't that hard to replace these parts and they are not all that expensive.
