What Year is my Motor 50hp Mercury

I just bought a used Mercury 50 2 stroke on a RIB, I am needing to rebuild the Carbs and am in need of a schematic and but need to know the year of my engine. the number on it is 47277. Can anyone help?

Merc serial numbers are either 7 digits for engine before about 1986, and 0 a letter and 6 digits from 1986 on.

Should look like '2345678' or '0x456789'.

I don't have a problem with them.... One of the easiest...

Sorry, nothing available on-line as a manual, you could look at www.mercruiserparts.com and follow the path to see what the bits look like... You can also order the manual from there too... The part number is 90-861355.

Thanks for the help, got the number and found the rebuild kit, I rebuilt both the carbs today. When we put the boat back in the water we still have the same problem. it runs fast for a couple of minutes then cuts back to an idle while still at full throttle. Do you have any idea what else could be causing this?

Try it again, but when it cuts back give the fuel primer (in the line from the fuel tank) a squeeze. If that works, rebuild the fuel pump....

The fuel primer did not work, it still cuts out. It also is not pissing..

NOW you tell us.... how about 'it's overheating'????

Drop the leg and change the impeller, replace the thermostat and check the poppet valve...

By now you may have done some damage to the cylinders, so do a compression test....

And since you're this far into what is effectively a service, replace the fuel pump diaphragms, spark plugs and gear oil.... and grease the prop shaft...
