none of this engine talk is all that important.... you can safely haul 10,000 lbs with 100 hp but all the power in the world won't save you if your suspension and brakes aren't up to the job or your tow rig doesn't have enough weight to control the load

3/4 t w/5.7(aka 350) and 3.73's pulling 6500-7000lbs. no problem. on the ramp u might get tire spin. just stand on the gas a little harder to dry it for everyone else. i've got a 1/2t with a 305 3 speed manual that can pull that boat without a hickup. u should have noproblem at all. ur truck is plenty big enough

Since you asked, I also recommend against fixing that trailer. You very well might be able to find one in good condition for less than the cost of repairs to that trailer.

A trailer for a 27' boat is 1200 - 1300 lbs.

Much heavier than that. The Shoreland'r trailer for my old 21' weighed 1200. The Tidewater for my 24' weighs 1675. A good trailer for a 27' is gonna tip the scales at near 2000.

Sorry, I was just saying that the 3/4-ton trucks usually have a base engine which is a small-block gasoline v8. The v10's, diesels, and big blocks are premium engine options. Also, I agree that the engine has little to do with the tow rating, the brakes, frame, and suspension/rear end ratio are what help determine that.

Totally agree. Brakes and how the tow rig is set up is much more important than how much HP you have... and for that matter, torque is more important in a tow rig that HP in my opinion.

Craigslist, you can find a good trailer for $2000 or less, and possibly sell yours for a few hundred.

If you have trailer brakes electric/hydraulic you are good to go. Preferably electric with a brake controller.
