Well i bought a set of elbows from ebay i "thought" would work. Dumb me didn't get a part# even if i knew which # to get? The parts listings are driving me nuts with different y-pipes and different elbows and special notes etc. My Center risers are newer their 4" this is a 5.7l, trying to hook a1984 Alpha 3" y-pipe. The elbows i got were 4"x4"oval. In the pic they looked like they dropped down to 3" but it was the angle of the pic, "wrong". I've seen in pics the rubber bellows going from 4"-3" but can/should i reverse a set to go from 4"-3" into the y pipe with these #11086 elbows i bought? or see attachments and parts i found to help figure out what i need here? Thanks. http://www.4shared.com/account/dir/37083635/b651162d/sharing.html?sId=qx9RYCN2V4pZkTAC

Maybe get the 94443a1 and add the 4" bellows to the riser end instead of whats in the pic-a 4-3" bellows? Assuming the end with the straight bellows in the pic is 3" ?

The only way I have seen that done (4" elbows to 3" exhaust pipe) is to have a custom adapter made. A friend of mine (yes, I have one, before someone else gets in on the act :D) is a welder and he/we put 4" centre rise elbows on an old 3 piece Y pipe system (an old 1977 '898', was a 230 when we finished:D). He welded up some bits of stainless and it worked really well.

Or is the 94443a1 to sharp of angle maybe for logs? Achris i was talking about the rubber bellows, they have 3' - 4" but should i put the 3" end on the y-pipe and the 4" end on these elbows with the exhaust direction of flow going from 4-3? might make the rubber to hot at the edges?

Is the problem here that i have newer center risers and an older 3" y-pipe maybe for logs only or can the 3" y-pipe be plumbed properly using mercruiser parts? If so i need the correct part's - #s? If not do i need a 4" y-pipe?

There are no Merc parts to do the job... A 4" Y pipe will not bolt up to the old style gimbal housing. The bolt patterns are different...

Time to break out the welder....

HA HA! Chris! It really shouldn't be this difficult, WTH? GRRR! Guess i'll sleep on it because right now I"m pretty frustrated about it! Now the elbows are suppose to fit over the riser outlets by a couple onches right, with the bellows over the two?

Yes it is... You are trying to put post '82 manifolds/elbows on a pre '82 exhaust pipe.... The post '82 Y pipe canted forward and the elbow (ali pipe between the elbow, cast iron, and the Y pipe) is designed to accommodate that, not the straight up Y pipe of the pre '82 system...

Have a good sleep, and break out the welder, tomorrow... :D :D :D

I had a 100.00 stick welder but i traded it for a 1966 Chris Craft 18' Sportsman Sea Skiff with a running Buick 155 v-6 Omc Stringer drive, nice boat! Couldn't pass it up, lol.

My Y-pipe does canter forward a bit. I thought it was post 82? I'll get the #s from it.

Look at my Y-pipe in the pic attachments. It's a one piece pipe.

OK... now I am officially confused...:confused::confused:

Look like you have the Y pipe for the 15 degree, 3" elbows and the elbows you have are 7 degree, 4"....

Maybe you need to change to the 4" Y pipe....part # -44266T.

????????????

Re: Exhaust plumbing parts,#s, got wrong ones

OK, What about the 94443a1 15* elbows that dump into the y-pipe as 3" but the diagram shows the upper bellows reducing from 4-3" to the risers. Can't i just use a 4-4" bellows on the top into the risers?
