Hello again, still new to boating. I need a drain plug for the back of my 16' Capri. What size do I need? Should the plug install through the back of the boat or through on the inside. I bought a plug from Walmart and it would not fit from the outside! So I put it in from the inside but noticed some water coming in. HELP! Not a major problem......unless I sink! Thanks

Guess I should mention I have a flange attached to the back with three screws that attach in to the fiberglass.

Welcome to iboats!

It sounds like you have a standard garboard. You need a threaded plug. I think I paid $6 for a two-pack at WalMart. Always good to have an extra!

They screw in from the outside. Because they have tapered threads, no sealant should be needed, and you don't need to tighten them with a pipe wrench. Finger tight plus 1/4 to 1/2 turn should be enough.

Hit your local ACE hardware, in the nuts/bolts section you'll find a drawer filled with rubber plugs w/ levers. Find one that fits sung (you can adjust that by screwing the lever in/out) and get 3 of them. One for the boat, one for the glovebox, and one to keep in the truck!! Install from the outside and you'll be good to go!

Happy boating!

Keep it somewhere where it will be in constant view when the boat's not in the water. This way, you'll never forget to put the plug in when you go out. Also..you'll only forget once.
