Please help me with some advice.

On a recent fishing trip I noticed that when I started my motor
(1980 50 HP 2-Stroke outboard) The water did not shoot out like it regularly does in the neutral position. I pushed the throttle forward into drive and it started to come out no problem, as I pushed the throttle more forward, the water stream increased in intensity. when brought back to neutral position the water was trickling out no problem. maybe weaker than last season but still no problem.

We took the boat out of the water right away and have not run it now for two weeks. a month prior My father-in-law brought us through some shallow water that the prop and skeg was going through a half foot of bottom muck. wondering if there is a partial obstruction or time to redo the whole water pump / impeller.

I am new to boating and would like to do what I can without involving expensive marina shops. I have been working on cars for the last twenty years, change my own lower end oil on motor and plugs etc..

No issues starting the motor, just the water flow.

Thank you in advance for your help, and taking the time to answer my questions.

change the impeller, charge the guy who did it. You prob do have some kind of damage to the impeller ..
