I have a 16' Sylvan Expedition and I need to replace the sending unit on the below deck fuel tank. The tank is shaped like this one. http://www.moellermarine.com/sites/moellermarine/files/FT1826-R4.pdf
The tank is only about 5-6" deep.

The sending unit itself is a reed switch style but the shank, (not sure on the right word) is only 4-5" long. I can take it apart if you guys need to see pics. It seems All of the replacement sending units I've seen are too long for this type of tank?? Any thoughts or suggestions?

I looked here, but all of the reed switch style ones seem to be too long. Do you have a link to the one you purchased by any chance?

I see what you mean about reed style. I bought mine at bass pro shops, its the swinging arm type, not as accurate but it works
