My wife and I just aquired a 1983 Chris Craft Scorpion 168, Mercruiser 3.0 4 cylinder. We actually got the boat free and trailer with title, motor spins freely great hull and solid floors. It basically needs a tune up, a few parts and lots of cosmetics (seats, rug ect..). The only problem I am having is I believe the starter is junk, I have the charger hooked up, when we turn the key we hear the circuit breaker click, I have power to the starter but the bendix drive does not kick out or spin. I was just wondering if anyone has some ideas, any help is appreciated. We are first owners also. I will have some pictures up soon of the boat and continue with them as process goes. We have everything priced out and it will be about a 2000.00 dollar investment when were done. I figure its not that bad since we did not purchase the boat! look forward to talking and gather information.

Thanks
Tim and Danielle

Re: New Owners!

Congrats on the new boat.

I highly recommend pulling out the starter and have it checked. Once it's out, you can bench test it, or take it to a decent marine shop or auto shop, and have it checked out. Nothing worse than having starter issues. Be sure it's a marine grade starter, and if you have to replace it, replace it with a marine grade starter.

Enjoy your new Chris Craft
