Has anyone ever used or heard of water pickup extentions for the water intake, it picks the water up from the bottom front of the lower unit instead of the sides?

Its call a "nosecone" and can be added to a stock lower unit. Some Mercury/Evinrude "standard" factory units come with these already(lower intake holes). Pic below is a stock unit with nosecone.

For Hi performance craft, need to be able to run 70+mph to benefit from a nosecone, less than that can actually slow boat down..

Re: 150 OptiMax Water pickup extentions

I have a 24' Stamus C.C. twin 150 optimax. It does about 50 mph, the motors are a little high on boat, I need better water pick up offshore. How much slower are we talking about, I only fish offshore so top end is not my worry.
Is there alot of drag?

There is some drag, check with a Merc dealer as the they had some S/S strips that fit the 3.0 liter cases that increased water flow to intake..
