Hey guys, I just got my first boat and it has a merc 125 outboard and in the manual it says to use a transom saver if the skeg is to close to the ground when lowered all the way. Well my skeg is like 2 inches off the ground. My question is if anyone uses the swivelease with the bend in it. I have a shorelander roller trailer and need this type because my trailer has no rear roller right off the back, the cross member is in quite a way. So I bought the swivelease and it went together great, it just seems that the actual transom saver is to close to the ground, anyone else with this saver think so. The motor is up 18inches now, I am just worried about hitting the transom saver.

Are you referring to storing the boat or when towing when your skeg is close to the ground? I'm sure the experts on this forum will correct me but if your referring to storing, I believe you are supposed to store the motor down? My skeg is about 2 inches from the ground on my Champion when stored, don't think it's a problem.

So, how close is the transom saver to the ground? Can you take a photo and post it here? Without being able to see the setup, it's going to be hard to comment.

Sorry for being vague. My question is during trailering the boat. I do keep it stored all the down. Here are a few pics, the motor is up nice, but the saver is only 6 inches of the ground so I am worried that the saver will take a hit.

It appear that the transom saver could be positioned straight out rather than having that angle in the middle. So accomplish that, couldn't you shorten the length? If not, return it and get one that's straight with an adjustable length.

Change the angle on the transom saver and shorten the length. It looks like both things are adjustable on that unit. Get it almost straight, rather than bent as far as it is. That'll fix things.

return the transom saver and get your cash back. Trailer the motor on the tilt latch, or use the "board" method. If you are relying on the transom saver that is 6" off the deck, you are putting your motor at risk--much more so than the existing bracket.

Store with it down, as was said. Just be carefull moving it around, backing in, etc. Don't trailer even a short distance with it down and 2" clearance.

Adjusted the saver so it's straight and adjusted the bracket alittle now it goes right up to the motor at a good angle. The problem was all in the bracket that hooks up to the trailer. Home Cookin-I thought of the board-but mercury specifically says to use a transom saver to support.

they all say that now. Never heard of a bracket failing, though.
