Hi. I'm new to iboats and have a question. I have an aluminum boat and have heard that using a brass drain plug could trigger galvanic corrosion in the boat. Help?

Welcome to iboats!

If you use a brass and rubber plug, the rubber pretty much keeps the two metals separate anyway. And if you trailer the boat, you will be removing the plug when you get the boat out of the water. In other words, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

The plug is a Garboard style and I'm in the salt quite often.

Just bought the boat recently. The plug was already installed. It is threaded. I wonder if there is a rubber plug I could use in the threaded hole or if I will have to drill out the threads.

Isn't the "hole" itself a brass fitting? You may want to change out the whole deal. Got a pic?

Good question. I'll check it tomorrow. I'm having an anchor bracket welded on in a few weeks, that would be good time to weld on a new drain hole for a rubber plug.
