Hello ive been reading the posts on here and havent found one that got my motor running again.

I was out on the boat died at full throttle. Brought it home and started trying to figure out the problem.

Ive replaced the kill switch. And power pack. The motor has a good spark. It has fuel going to the motor. And a new racor fuel filter on the boat. It shows no water in the bulb.

I can smell gas on the plugs.

When i turn that red lever on the front of the motor gas will pour out of the carbs. (Is that supposed to be pointed up or down for start up?)

I have around 110 PSI in the cylinders.

But still it wont run.

It turns over fine. I have the battery fully charged. Brushed the connections. I dont think that anything is loose. Any guesses? It be much appreciated!

Out of curiousity, does your 98 have 1 power pack like my 2001 does? If so, on the power pack, there is 2 quick connect plugs that plug into the power pack. If you pull off the port side quick connect, my manual says that will over ride the kill switch circuit. Try that and see if it fires. Might have a cut or chafed kill switch wire.

Red lever needs to point at the base of the choke solenoid.
Its for pull starting, don't fiddle with it if your elec start works.

Is it flooded out?
Remove plugs and crank it, do you get a fountain of fuel spraying out?
They like to start wet but not flooded.

Any chance you got some water in your gas? If there is water in the carb bowls she won't fire even if everything else is right. You might try loosening the screw at the bottom of the bowls and draining the bowls then try starting. Also if you have a fuel & water separator empty the filter.

if the kill circuit was at fault he wouldnt have spark would he???

i had a yellow w/red wire in my hanress that actually broke inside its sheath and that prevented my motor from starting..and prevented any spark....I think i remember that it might have been the kill circuit wire..

you got to go through some defined steps...

you have fuel in the cylinders, and spark!!

tells me you either have no compression, or you have bad fuel...

the only other thing could be the timing is way way off

you say you have compression...the motor should fire over

id suspect bad fuel....

rig up a new portable tank and hose it into the motor...bypass all that fuel system in the boat now..

install new plugs( nice to do anyway),....i have had a plug not fire before!!!!

I have a spray bottle of premixed gas i use to trouble shoot...

I can give a few shots into the carb to see if the motor fires over...

tells me I got spark igniting my fuel...

i go from there...

good luck

Ill buy your motor for $250 right now!!! ha ha ha

Ill try to put some gas in the cylinders. And turning it over with the plugs out.

The motor only has one power pack. but 2 ignition coils.

Ill let ya know how it goes. Thanks for the replys

That is a 115hp looper with OPTICAL ignition. There is a timing wheel up on top of the flywheel that can break. You say you have spark, but is it sparking at the right time???

It takes a special timing tool to time those motors. Not normally done with a timing light. You never say HOW you know you have spark. Are you using an air gap spark tester, or simply pulling a plug and watching for spark? Gotta use the air gap tester.

Plenty of posts on here about those testers. But I suspect that the plugs aren't firing at the right time.

You can go here, www.cdielectronics.com and find their troubleshooting steps for OPTICAL ignitions. Go thru those steps.

I just pulled the plug and watched it spark. Its not sparking now though. Ill go to napa and pick up one of those tools.
