I have a johnson 88 on a recently aquired bowrider that I'm making into a fishing boat. At idle the motor shakes back and forth (fairly slow), Almost like something not ballanced or something bent etc. It's not horrible and the motor still runs good. Just wondering if this is a charactor of the V4 or what I should check / look at??

Anyone have any other maintenance tips for the motor? I know very little about it other than it was on the water the last two years. And It's going back on water this weekend...(I hope...;))

Thank You !

Best thing to do is compare it to another good running Johnson / Evinrude V4 and see if your shake is comparable.

First Ride / Run !

Ran around all afternoon, The old motor purred like a kitten ! Was just a trial run to see what I need to do to it. Found a few little odds and ends that Need done to make it more comfy and friendly etc. But She done good..

It is a Trick to Launch and Load by yourself though...Lucky the ramp wasn't terribly busy. One boater that was leaving as I was trying to launch asked if he could o anything to help, I replied "Nope I Just have no Idea what I'm Doin"...LOL He smiled and shook his head in understanding, Kinda like he was saying "Been There"....!!

I have come up with some questions about running on the water but I'll post that in the right section.......

The Steering Cable HAS TO GO !!! That is a P.I.A. !!!
