6 h.p. Montgomery ward impeller

I am trying to take the lower unit off of this motor to get at the impeller. Do i have to pull the power head? or the shift linkage. BEcause i took out the 4 bolts but she still doest come out

Hey RiverCaptain, what model monkey ward? shift linkage or drive shaft stuck in the power head would be a guess.

It is an old 6hp, not sure of the model, but it appears as if the shift linkage is all contained in the lower unit, there is no exposed linkage under the cowl.

there should be some number on it some place. does the engine have cooling fins like a lawn mower?
