You can't read 24 volts on a gauge designed to read 12 volts. Besides, reading 24 is no different than reading 12 volts twice (once for each battery). If you set the switch to 12 volts, the batteries should be placed in parallel so that's the only reading you need to be concerned about.

Re: battery energy gauge help

Is there a RUN/CHARGE switch somewhere on the bow of your boat where the trolling motor plugs in? If there is, then set that switch to CHARGE. This is NOT the 12/24 switch on your motor. The RUN/CHARGE switch places the two batteries in parallel so the gauge will read the condition of both batteries simultaneously. If you don't have such a switch, you need to add a switch that lets you select viewing battery 1 or battery 2. This requires a six terminal ON-OFF-ON switch. I have a pencil drawing how to do this but I will post a "clean" drawing shortly.

Re: battery energy gauge help

Do you know if that 12 volt setting "parallels" the two batteries or does only one battery get selected?

Here is a diagram of how I would set this up. If you are unfamiliar with electrical wiring then you are advised to let someone else wire it. But this diagram uses a SPDT On-Off-On switch to select Battery #1, Battery #2 or OFF. It would not interfer with any 24 volt operations.
