Re: Anyone else get this virus

I think the point was that a registry cleaner is essential. Among those listed on the site posted pick any one and use it!

Well, then say that. Don't give an example because 99% of the people out there will just download the one you specifically mentioned without hesitation.

A truly free and trusted registry cleaner can be found at http://system-cleaner.comodo.com/ . That one is from a trusted company. I installed it and it found 748 errors.

Waterinthefuel: I think you might tone it down a bit. RegCure was a suggestion not a command and it is a Microsoft Partner.
I think RegCure works, is very easy to use and has other usefull apps. It got me out of a jam last year that even the McCaffe tech line couldn't. It was indentical to the one Fairlaneman first posted about. Again, just a personal opinion from experience as a non professional. I have no interest in this program so, If you think the bad review you found outweighs the good reviews, it's ok with me.
Fairlaneman I think that if you follow the method I gave you in my post above you might have some success

You're brand new here, I've been here a hell of a long time.

Not everyone agrees on everything. This does not mean anyone needs to tone anything down. This isn't heated, as we're actually in agreement about everything.

Not sure about you, but I know a lot about computers, I am paid to help people with their computers, I build computers, I also do free work on the side. I feel responsible, if I tell someone about software specifically, if that software works for them. It may have worked for you, but there is obviously a huge number of people that have had problems. Before recommending a program, do research and make sure it's safe. You could literally crash a thousand computers if they take your advice off of this forum and use it and it damage their machine. It being a Microsoft partner means nothing to me.

You absolutely don't mean any harm and I know that without a doubt. You only want to help and that is wonderful. But you have to be careful. Not that anyone can come back at you for bad advice, but because you would feel bad if you started getting PM's in your inbox from various members who tried it and it destroyed their operating systems.

To everyone else:

Another one you can try is registry easy (google it) and then PM me for the free code to register it. It's readily available on the net so it's not like its a big deal to give it out. This one has some amazing features and I have it too. It's by far the best and is rated number 1. PM me if you would like the website to download it from, and the serial code for full activation.

Malwarebytes is your friend! Run it in safe mode and you'll probably kiss that nasty little bug goodbye!

As many people think registry easy is a scam as do regcure. Registry cleaners get way to much credit for helping than what they actually do.

To the OP...Go to this site and join the blog with your problem. There are a few programs they have you run including malwarebytes and you post your log files. It is amazing what these guys can do for you and it is run by volunteers.

Registryeasy has been rated number one. Regcure has NOT. I cannot find a place where they say registryeasy is a scam. I looked. Maybe you would find something I didn't. Hint: Don't just read the link titles, you must click on them. Come to find out NONE that I saw actually knocked this software. I highly recommend registryeasy!

I'm an airframe mechanic and I repair computers. It would be OPPOSITE everything I stand for if I would stand behind a bad product. But I'm dropping this now. The point is, registry cleaners work, GOOD ones do, anyway.

If you think registry cleaners are good at getting rid of viruses you are sadly mistaken. In fact many can do more harm than good. Equivalent of putting the latest and greatest spark plug in your car and thinking it improves you gas mileage by 20%. Its a computer's version of snake oil.

In case you forgot, this thread is about getting rid of a virus.

From the sound of it the virus is called "Antivirus 2009" I got it on my computer from a link on facebook. I should have known when a friend sent me a message saying "check this out, its hilarious!" and i dont really talk to her. Any, Norton missed it, spybot found it but couldn't get rid of it, malwarebytes got it and got rid of most of it. My computer hasn't been the same and most days I want to throw it out the second story window.

Good luck

Before you throw your computer out the window give Combofix a try. I've been fixing computer hardware and software for over 30 years and when it comes to cleaning trojan's and viruses the first thing I run is Combofix.

Another good utility for clearing temp and cached files on Windows 2000 and XP systems is ATF-cleaner. It clears windows and user temp files, internet temp files, Java cache as well as some other things. You can select which things you want it to clear. I've seen it free up as much as 1.5 gig of drive space. After you free up the drive space de-fragment the drive to speed things up.

Whats to know? Combofix runs without user interaction with the exception of asking to install the recovery console if it's not already installed. You start it, it runs and gives you a report at the end. I've used it more than 50 times and it's never caused any problems.

It has issues depending on what is going on with your computer that will cause it to never boot properly again after running. That is why it is a good thing to run some other utilities and have one of the user groups look at them to give you advice. Also, combofix allows some scripting to be added to it which the user groups can also help with.

Re: Anyone else get this virus

Dont think I want the computer to not boot correctly. I'll probably not do that, besides stupid mcafee wont allow it. Did however use that atf thingy and it cleared about the same amount as the MS disk cleaner does. Well it was worth a shot right?
Anyway, probably take it to a pro that actually knows what the heck they're doing instead of me messing around, getting pissed off and slamming the computer.

For Viruses? Any software that's free can help. If you pay for it, the software guys giggle and say "sucker." Thats my opinion with viruses.

Before you run any software that you download to fix viruses, you should both remove yourself from the internet(if downloaded software doesn't need access) and disable any anti virus on your computer.

I will post the site again

They will probably have you run ComboFix but will have you run some diagnostics first.

You need internet explorer for updates. Not sure you can really delete internet explorer anyway. How did you do it?
