Hello everyone,

i bought my first boat last fall and have taken it out several times already and LOVE IT! However, today i ran into some trouble. We were on the lake for about 3 1/3 hours and all was well. Then, after sitting for about 15 minutes, I started the engine and began to put towards the boat ramp. when I went to open it up (WOT) nothing happened. I put it in neutral and tried again. same thing. now the motor revs to the moon so I kill it quickly. wait a few seconds. fire it back up and immediately put it in gear. from neutral to 1/2 throttle the boat accelerates flawlessly. However if you throttle up any farther than that, nothing happens. Also, when you return to neutral, the engine revs to the moon. The boat is at my house and I'm going of town for mothers day so I won't able to investigate until Monday. But i wanted to get some opinions on what could be wrong. I do not suspect a throttle cable being broken but other than that, I have no idea. any help is appreciated and if i need to add information please let me know. thanks

ENGINE: 1982 Yamaha 200AETO with 960 hours

spun prop hub? Not sure what your meaning of nothing happens is.

Make sure all your linkage is all still attached and working properly and freely

thanks for the reply! and sorry for not being more specific. by nothing happens, i mean the boat does not accelerate any further passed 1/3 throttle. from 0 to 1/3 everything is flawless. from 1/3 to full throttle the engine does not accelerate at all. and when returned to neutral the rpms are extremely high

The boat doesn't accelerate - or the engine won't accelerate? Does the engine rev normally without being in gear?

The engine does not accelerate passed 1/3 throttle. And when not it gear the revs are EXtremely high. Everything was fine all day yesterday until the happened after skiing.

So the engine won't rev past 1/3 speed when IN gear - and revs to igh RPM in neutral? Thats not good ... not sure its safe to ski behind.

I would pull the cowl off and take the water deflectors off the carbs and check to see if the carb butterflies open/close consistently with each other with the engine both on and off (3 carbs I believe). Sounds like one carburetor's control rods may be loose.

thanks for the reply! I got over there today and pulled the cowl off to find that the throttle linkage was broken. it's a little plastic piece that connects a threaded rod to a ball and socket type connection. The plastic split on the treaded end so i temporarily secured it with a zip-tie until I can locate one of these connectors to replace it. Thanks again!!
