Re: Bow in the air!!!

The serial number you gave would indicate a mid to late 80's 1.6L. They varied from 110-140 hp. They made some in the early 90's that rated 150 hp. They had a lot of issues. If I remember right, the drive would rust bad due to water backflow through the exhaust.

I think Myview may be right...I thought they only made two sized sea drives with the smaller one beingn 1.6 l at 110-140 like myview said. I would do a little more investigating before assuming the boat is underpowered.

Additionally I just found that 2BBXCO designates a 1.6L 1985 Sea Drive so maybe your 85 in your serial number is year and not horsepower?.....

Re: Bow in the air!!!

I'm probably not being helpful, but to be frank, oif it were me I'd be VERY tempted to back it through the guys living room wall.

"as is" is one thing, completely misrepresenting something is a different story. I'd be beyond pissed. Heck, it's your boat and it makes me mad.

does the bill of sale or paperwork agreement you did with the guy say 150HP?

I know you were referring to the original poster..but I was very angry...I even attempted to take the guy to court, but not knowing the laws (never sued anybody before lol) I filed in my county but purchased the boat in his county, and when I showed up in court, the judge told me I have to file in the county where the boat was purchased. In the end, I decided that the guy was "established", meaning he owned a house, a couple cars, a new bass boat, and probably getting it off his credit report wasn't that important to him, andregardless of whether or not I won, he wouldn't actually pay and if I garnished his wages, I'd get like $15 a month (a friend of mine sued and won a $25,000 judgement, had to garnish, and gets $25 a month so i'm assuming I'd get even less)..which would mean I'd have HIS boat in my garage and it would take a LONG time to get my money back, so I just took it as a life lesson: Never buy a boat, house, vehicle, ect...with your heart, buy it with your brain. Sounds easy..but when you've been dreaming of a bass boat for 10 years and finally manage the money to do it...I was too excited and eager and my trust level was way to high. I believed him with what he told me and with his answers to my questions. Bah! It's all water under the bridge at this point, now I have a bond with my boat as I've put work into it..I'm gonna miss it when I sell it with my FULL disclosure of what I know is wrong and right with the boat!

Re: Bow in the air!!!

I think I may have found a BIG part of the problem! All 4 pistons should have rings on them, Right?:rolleyes: I did call the guy I got the boat from and express my "apprieciation" for his helping me out:mad:(of my good running boat)! This could turn into a very expensive "life lesson and boat repair".Anybody got parts for this thing?

I'm not at all an expert and you might do better stating the problem over in the Johnson Evinrude section of repairs but I believe as long as its the motor itself that needs parts you should not have much of a problem finding parts as many of the johnson motor parts are interchangeable with your motor...the Sea Drive is a problem if you need parts for the bracket and trim sections of the set up.

Re: Bow in the air!!!

bparker;

A number of posts here recomended trim tabs as being a possible solution. They are wrong, it is the solution. If more power was the solution, what would be enough? How about a 225 HP four stroke Merc? Power is not everything, but Balance is!

Why does the bow go up and point to the sky? Why doesn't the stern go up at the same time as the bow. Is the answer "not enough power"? NO, it is balance. There is ovbiously more weight at the stern and less in the bow. The water pressure upon acceleration pushes the lightest part of the boat up First and that is the bow. Extra power will only allow you to climb the hill easier, but it does not get rid of the hill. At some point the extra power is no good because the weight of the bigger motor makes the balance even worse.

Trim tabs provide extra lift at the stern so that the bow and stern rise out of the water together. Bow rise will be reduced from the 16 to 17 degrees you are experiencing now to 5 or 6 degrees. The available horse power (regardless of ewngine size) is now used to propell the boat forward. The "Hill" is eliminated.

Single best thing you can do for any power boat.
