Want to test run engine outside of boat

Hey guys was hoping to get some info.
I pulled my engine last season and before throwing it back in the boat i want to test her out in the driveway.Was hoping to get some tips on setting it up correctly.


I am going to use external gas tank with fresh gas
I will be attaching the water hose directly to the raw seawater intake hose.
I have mounted the engine on a sturdy platform.

What would be the correct way to hook up the battery and engage the starter?

hook up main battery cables as normal, using a alligator clip jumper from the + battery directly to the + side of the coil, and jump the solenoid.

Thanks Bt Doctor, doesnt sound to bad any other tips ? Sounds like u may have done this once or twice before.

Personally, I wouldn't even think of reinstalling an engine back in a boat without running it on the floor. Check for leaks and make sure everything is ok first. Then install.

I am with DonS.
look at the wiring diagram.
after hooking up the positive and negative cables jump from the red pin to the purple ign pin.
then momentarily jump from red to yellow red. remove the red to purple to kill it.
not knowing which ign system your using its the safest way and how I do all of them.
i cant remember the pin numbers but they are in the service manual.

Im going to be ready to start her up in a about 2 weeks im waiting on a few parts . I appreciate your expertise. Ill probably have a few questions when i actually get dirty just trying to get prepared. Thanks guys
