Force 150 rough low RPM

I have a 1989 Force 150 H.P. on a 17 ft bass boat and it runs great when it's at 1/2 or higher throttle but below that it runs really rough. Vibrates and kinda jerks.

It also seems to have a starting problem. I have to give it quite a bit of throttle to get it started and once it does start and I try to put it in gear it dies unless you very quickly give it enough gas. It likes to stick in gear as well; making starting even more of a pain.

I would appreciate any help or suggestions anyone has here. Thanks.

First do a compression test.Then a spark test.Then check the fuel pumps/2
diaphrams.
Check for water in the gas.Ethanol makes older hoses weak and can cause problems,J

Thanks I'll check that this weekend as the boat is at my cabin. Any idea why it sticks in gear? I was thinking it needed a new control box/throttle control box thing but I have no idea really.

Re: Force 150 rough low RPM

I finally got around to doing a spark test and I the #2 cylinder has no spark. The plugs are new so what could be causing this?

Switch the coils around and see if the no spark follows the coil or stays with the pack.Did you check the diaphrams? J

I switched the #1 and #2 coils around and i was able to get spark on #2. So bad coil then? And I replaced both diaphragms on the fuel pumps a couple weeks ago.
