Now Ignition problem?

I got my fuel pump rebuilt and took it out to test it the other day and it still has the same problem. My 1992 120 L Drive will go to 2500 rpms and thats it while in gear. I was told by a mechanic, without looking at my boat, that it was in the ignition system. My motor has the replacement Red Stator on it already. He was asking if the switch box had been replaced and I said "Not sure!?" Would the switch box cause this problem? I would hate to spend an unnecessary $200! Thanks!

Not the switchbox.

If the switchbox works at low rpm, it will work at high rpm.

Was the stator recently installed? If so, double check all the wiring.

ok...not switch box. thanks! I tested my stator, and it read 655 ohms. On another post, there was a link to a spec sheet that said it should be 680-850. so I am taking it as my stator needs replaced right!??

I also meant to add that I tested my trigger and it was okay. How do you know if you have a voltage regulator or rectifier? I am looking at a stator but there are 2 different ones, one for 9 amp system and one for 18amp system.

You have a rectifier.

I believe you can use either of those stators on your motor, I would get the larger one.
