i started my 115 mercury on the muffs last weekend and while running i noticed that a lot of water was coming out around the hole where the shift linkage goes through and where the lower motor mounts inter. I repleaced the water pump and all gaskets after this as i was afraid there could be a
major leak in the housing but this is stil happening. It may be normal just not sure. If anyone know let me know.

Re: question about discharge of water from engine.

We have the exact same problem on a '05 200 DFI. Don't call Mercury directly they have no idea what it is. We have been through at least a dozen techs there. There are 2 small drain holes above and in front of the lower mounts that it is coming through. It also appears there may be an exhaust pulse in the water too that showed up after we took the covers off.
Mechanics here in south Florida don't have an answer either.
One mechanic even told us something hit the motor hard from behind and pushed the mount bolts through the drive shaft tube.
We have changed everything in the bottom end including the water pump coupling and still have the problem.

What gives?????

Re: question about discharge of water from engine.

i may be wrong here...but i noticed the same thing when my father hooked up the hose on his i/o. never noticed it on mine or when i hook it up. he had the water turned on full blast, providing way too much water and it has to go somewhere right?

so my thought would be too much water pressure.

they are designed to pickup/suck water on there own. supplying water through muffs means your supplying pressurized water. i do believe your only supposed to slightly open the water supply just enough to give a constant supply. fully opening the supply in most cases will give about 40-60 pounds of water pressure, and forcing it through the impeller and wherever else it can go. such as out of the shift shaft.

if it's possible could you post up a picture of the area it's coming from? Might help.

I don't have a picture but it is coming from the lower motor mount covers in the lower very front part of the drive shaft housing. Once inside the cover there is a roughly 3/8" drain hole just above the mount which I assume drains any water in the drive shaft tube.

Well I called Merc tech again and this time got a senior tech on the phone. He seems to think it is a base gasket or exhaust gasket.
