about a month ago i placed a add in pittsbutrgh cl to buy a boat trailer.
this guy emailed me and had a trailer i could have free , but there was a boat on it .
i took the trailer and boat.
this boat has a volvo i/o in bad shape
it was tore down to the block and left out in the rain
its froze up.
also floor was tore out
been thinking of rebuilding the boat
for a motor i have to replace the motor and drive
or i was thinking of converting it to outboard
and make my own bracket
i got a 50 hp merc to put on
anyone ever make up there own bracket
and how did you do it.
boat is a renken 2095 19' bowrider

Its definitely doable. There are a few guys that have recently done that on here. Here is one, but there a few others as well. I think that a 50 HP motor on a 19 foot boat could be a little underpowered, but I might be wrong. If there is anything worth parting out in the motor/ outdrive you might be able to pick up a gill bracket or a bigger motor.

the hull is in good shape, the wood in the stringers will have to be replaced
was thinking of make a bracket of my own and when i beef up transom tie it into stringers and floor inside. if i find a i/o i will put it in ,if not i have the 50 -4 cyl. merc a older one.or find bigger outboard.

bought it 10 years ago , all seats and floor was rotted, white foam under floor was soaked ,replced foam with blue foam sheets ,treated plywood deck, carpet,2 ped. seats behind console, had so much water in it bent trailer axle.

I would put 150hp on that hull.

halfway down the page he starts building a mold for an outboard bracket.

Unless you can weld...

that guy makes me want to get lots more info on
doing work like that then try to make a bracket on my own.
was just going to weld steel toghter to make bracket , might not look good but would work.
i got the hull for 0 bucks so if i screw it up not out anything
right now don't have cash to start anything ,just research.
if i run across a big outboard may be pick it up.

volvo penta aq120b and 270 drive
motor was striped down to top of block and left open to weather
cly. and steel parts are rusted , block froze up,not have anything from top of block up , no use to try to repair it.been used in salt and drive seams to be in bad shape to.

drive i have been working on it and its going slow been in salt and just don't want to come off

Could you just install a jack plate? I've never had one, so I don't know the particulars, but it looks like you could just bolt it on your existing transom, add o/b, and go. Of course you would have to fill the hole from your existing inboard. Just a thought.

i was looking at jackplates but i think it would not have space for motor to tip up between motor and transom

You might want to make an accurate estimate of what the boat needs, get a good material list, price it & look for a boat that doesn't need so much work for that amount of money. Not to knock your project but you may be able to replace the boat for the same $$$ (or so) & not have to do the work. Or you'll find out your better off fixing it.

Looking closer at the pix, that is a really nice looking boat!

i got chance to get a free boat from my son's boss a bowrider boat around same size made for outboard.
i may fix it up
the boats since they were free
if i drop 500-1000 in them i am still ahead
and i can build to what i need

one thing more its going to be something to work on long term not fix over night.
buy some parts when and if i come up with the extra cash

Its gonna need a transom, stringers and deck, thats $1000.
Then the bracket and outboard , another $1500 if you get the controls with the outboard and build the bracket from whatever.
If you do it slowly its not $o painfull.
