I have a 1993 mercruiser MCM 5.0L serial 0f002209.
My drive is a Gen 2 serial number od899770.
I have downloaded the manual for my year but still have a question about the timing. I see in other posts that it needs to be locked in timing mode and some need to be in gear while setting the timing. My manuls says to set it at 8 deg. before TDC while in nuteral. I just want to verify this with the experts on here before setting it. Thanks

Re: Timing Question

You have a Thunderbolt IV ignition system. No base timing mode.
Just hook up your timing light, shoot and adjust.

Re: Timing Question

Also after getting the timing correct make sure you check the timing again after you tighten the distributor clamp bolt. I timed my and after I tightened the bolt I must have hit the distributor and my timing was at 4? BTDC not at 8? were it should have been.
