My buddy bought a Glaspar G3 in cherry condition. We're doing a few fiberglass repairs, but other than that, its one owner garage kept. Very nice. All the cables and hoses are in good shape.

The motor looks good, but we haven't cranked it up. I'm assuming it was winterized somehow. What should we do to get it 'summerized'? We have the manual.

The motor is a V4S. There is a V4SL also, what is the difference?

New gas for sure - any good additives to recommend?
spark plugs - any special kind? Where would you buy them?
Oil and filter - any tricks here?
Is there anything to keep and eye out for in the lower unit?
New Battery - I assume we need a marine battery ... any kind in particular?

I'll put pictures up after this weekend.

The L means Long Shaft.

It would be a good idea to run some SeaFoam Deep Kreep through the motor AFTER you get it going. That'll help clean up the innards. Search on "decarbon" here on iboats forums for more info on the procedure.

Plugs - Champion J6C. Available most anywhere that handles spark plugs.

No oil and filter to change - no oil in the motor, only the lower unit.

Your motor has an electric shift and requires OMC Type C oil for electric shift units. Lots of info here on electric shifts - not to be confused with hydroelectric shift.

Anything from 600 to 1000 cranking amps is good for a battery.

Thanks for the help ... that is great info.

Given she just purchased the boat, I'm thinking its prob best to change the oil in the lower unit. Can you do that without serious dis-assembly? What kind of oil? No filter of any kind? How often should you change that oil?

I assume this motor's oil goes in the gas?

Tough news. 2 Spark Plug Helix coils are bad. Have to have them replaced. Was afraid to try to start it. They hardly bit at all.

Also, there was some water in the lower unit oil. Not a whole lot, but some. We'll have to have the seal and water pump looked at.

Looks like we're going to have to find a good old Johnson mechanic.
