Hi just wondering if anyone has done any work or upgrades to their 3.0L Mercruiser engine, mine runs well and starts 1st hit of the key when cold.
BUT when it's hot (after skiing) we let it idle for about 15 seconds before stopping engine.
When we go to start it, it takes about 4-5 seconds of winding to get it to go, it coughs and splutters and then it's fine.
Is there a fix for it, it has been tuned and had carb overhaled by a very good mechanic. He tells me it's a common problem with the 3.0L engine.
Anyone with a fix they have used and would share with me!!!!!

thanks.

Hi, timing is set to standard, what ever that is, maybe needs some advancing ?

Let it cool down 1,000 rpms idle for about 2 min, that gets the heat out of the manifold and cooled down. Mine start fine if I do this, but if I do not it starts hard when hot. But always starts great when cold.
The hot manifold boils the gas out of the carb or vaporlocks the engine.
I have fresh water cooling which might let the manifold cool down quicker, not 100% sure.
