Little engraved labels for switches, where to buy?

The local West Marine used to carry these little 0.5" by 1.5" engraved plastic labels, a screw hole at either end, for labeling switches, etc.: "BILGE PUMP," "NAVIGATION," ANCHOR LIGHT" that sort of thing.

They don't carry 'em anymore.

Anyone know a source?

(I found a few places online that can custom make them, but they either don't offer the 0.5" by 1.5" size I want or they want $12 UPS to ship me $6 worth of labels.)

just a thought is to find a local electrical supply dealer that deals with industrial controls. We have little tags like you are wanting custom made on occasion for our control panels. The ones we get have sticky tape on the back so you might have to drill the holes.

I would also imagine that if you can find what you want, or want a custom look, you could go to a trophy shop and have the made fairly cheap.

....you mean like these right here @ iboats.com ?

FWIW....Ed in ol' Virginny

Nah, those are stickers. I need something I can screw down to the Starboard dash panel I'm making.

Yeah, maybe a trophy shop, didn't think of that.

Or maybe I'll call up the online places Monday and see if they'll use USPS and an envelope for $1.50 instead of UPS for my tiny order.

I'll second the recomendation of a local trophy shop. We have one around here that does alot of small specialized tags, laser engraved.

There are 3 places by me that sell them. Small black plastic engraved (should there be commas in there somewhere?) placques?

Since I'm not there their business rep, I won't post their web sites on here, but if you PM me, I'll send them to you.

The ones you are looking for are no longer made. The company went out of business about 10 years ago. Some of the West stores still have the display to sell them but only have stock on hand. Trophy stores are rediculously expensive and from what I've seen they don't make ones that look like the originals.

Two winters ago I restored an old wooden boat and needed a dozen or so of those tags. I stopeed at the 2 West stores in my area, plus about 10 other marinas. I was able to get at least one tag at most places. The last one I found in a West store in CA when I was on a business trip.

Keep looking around. Marine dealers that sell parts and have been in business for a long tome will be your best bet.

Thanks to woosterken for hooking me up with the little labels.

I promised him I'd show what I'm making with them:

Not that it's a major thing, but this is counter intuitive to the indexed nature of the net. Quite often when someone asks the answer to an obvious question the response (on most forums, not necessarily this one) is often "Learn to use Google". Google can't find stuff buried in a PM though. Might as well post for all to see so that someone who finds this post in a year (or more) isn't trying to PM you and hoping that you're still an active member ;).
