My baja has a 87 or 88 evinrude 200xp v6 vro. When the motor gets warm the motor starts chugging and i cant go anywhere. After a short period of time im able to throttle up and go wherever. Iv had this problem for a while. I thought it was a fuel problem and replaced all the fuel lines. Today i noticed some melted epoxy underneith the flywheel. Did some research on here and i think this is my problem. Has anybody on here fixed this problem themselves? I can get my buddy to use his gear puller and get the flywheel off. but what do we do after that?

See here for removing flywheel ... forget the gear puller:

The melted stuff is insulation from the stator, which is likely bad.

The issue with poor running, though, sounds like it may be a fuel system problem. Possibly carbs needed a serious cleaning/rebuild or a fuel delivery problem (air leak in fuel plumbing, crap around the tank pickup screen, anti-siphon vale not working right, etc., etc.)

thank you very much for the link to the flywheel removal. very helpful. couple of questions. how hard is the stator to remove after the flywheel is off? where is the anti-spyphon valve located? the problem with this boat motor is very inconsistent. i put the boat in the water, go wherever i want, as soon as i come to a stop it starts chugging, and i cant throttle up. wait a little, turn it off whatever, and i can go. i get back to the dock, as soon as i get my boat on the trailor it starts the chugging problem again. this seems to be a great motor on this boat so if i cant fix the stator problem myself, shes going to a marine mechanic and so is my wallet

im very hopefull that whats happening is the motor is getting warm and loosing its connection with the stator?

Stator removal is very easy once the flywheel is off. It's an expensive part, so I would suggest testing to make sure it's bad. See here:
http://www.cdielectronics.com/downloads/troubleshooting guide/

You will need to get a DVA adapter for a volt-ohm meter like this:
http://www.usatoolwarehouse.com/usatoolwarehouse/ESI-640.html

The anti-siphon valve is in the tank outlet of built in tanks, typically.

You would also be well served getting an OEM shop manual if you're planning to do any semi-serious work on your motor : Fleabay or outboardbooks.com. Don't bother with third party books; they are held in pretty low regard here.
