1974 volvo penta aq130c/270 tilt/trim problems

I have a 1974 Volvo Penta AQ130c/270, the power tilt has benn working fine. Now I went to put it in the up position and it wont make a sound (move). growls when I hit the down switch but its max down. Is there a way to get it to go up manually? anybody have any ideas ? thanks ps. I have been trying to trouble shoot it but My manuals dont jive with what I have in the boat

So, when you hit the switch to go down, when it's already down, it growls?

It should be stopped by the trim limit switch.

Does your lift look like this.

doesnt look like either one and yes when its down all the way it growls. I can take a pic of it if would help

You've got the 270T model with power trim and tilt. First time I've seen pics. They are kind of rare.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you very much. the 270T shop manual will get me thru this project in flying colors, thanks Don for sharing. All the information you gave me was splended. Always helps to have the right manuals but they are hard to find. Thanks for your help !!!!!!

ps. I will send a short narrative of the problem and the fix when I complete the job incase anyone else has the same issue.
