Can I use a 270 sterndrive from a 4 cyl on an inline 6? Thanks

It will physically fit, but it has the wrong gear ratio. You could change props but you would loose on performance. That is why they make different gear ratios.

Don-the gear/ratio, if I understand this, would be the lower unit of the drive? Could I replace the lower unit from the 4-cyl removal with the 6-cyl bottom unit and then just use this combined outdrive for my 6-cyl?

Sorry didn't want to make this confussing anymore than it is to me.
