I have just purchased a 1999 johnson 40 with oil injection. I mixed the first tank with oil then the second with none. Closer to the end of the second tank it began to lose power but still ran. I checked for any cracks in the oil line and found none. Just wondering what else it could be?

If you have run a whole tank of fuel without oil and not pumping any oil from the oil tank then your motor may well have suffered severe damage.

Check the compressions and if still Ok run on 50:1 premix until you fine the reason it is not pumping oil

How do you know its not using oil? I have a 1994 johnson 60hp and it doesn't use much oil, it takes a couple trips out to notice a drop in the oil tank. I believe these are variable oil pumps and and mix according the rpm, higher=more oil, lower=less oil but I could be wrong.

Compression is fine. Thats the first thing i checked. It has a no oil alert and low oil and will not allow for maximum RPM with either comes on. Just wondering how i could get it to start pumping oil properly.

First thing to do: PUT OIL IN THE FUEL TANK.

Then, purge the oil system using the oil priming bulb, following owner's of shop manual procedure. Mark oil tank with a marker pen at the current oil level. Run motor for a few hours and check to be sure oil level has gone down an appropriate amount.

Blew it up this past weekend. Couple first minutes of operating.
