Motor has been sittin, I'm gonna do the impeller tomorrow. The only other impeller I've changed was on a 69 evinrude 115. The evinrude had electric shift which was a pain (and it was huge), so I'm guessin this should be much easier. Any tips or tricks or things I should watch out for?

Impeller change is fairly straightforward with this motor; drop the LU, unscrew the impeller housing, line up the key, install new impeller, close it all up. The "Gotchas" that I remember:

1. Water tube can be a bit of a pain to line up.
2. Be careful when you re-attach the shift rod. make sure you have correctly lined up the bolt in the coupler, else you will strip the bolt after a while.

Ok so how do disconnect the shift rod? The 69 rude 115 I did was electric shift so I didn't have to mess with the shift rod.

Small oval window on the leg. remove the two screws and plate. Inside will be a brass coupler with two bolts. Remove the bottom bolt, and the shift shaft down to the gearcase should slip out. You may have to coax it a little, but it will come on out.

the driveshaft turns in a cw rotation...the impeller vanes will "flip" to the proper rotation regardless how you install it...anyway, the vanes should trail when the driveshaft is turning cw

Another tip: there's a little tiny pin holding the impeller in place when you slide it on.........don't lose it trying to find a replacement is hell.

The key here is to totally remove the bottom bolt/screw, don't just loosen it. It must be out and in your hand to release the shifter.
