So i bought this boat today, It has never been finished. picked it up from a guy who got if from bayliner before they went outta business in this area, Washington state. The boat has from what i can tell, never seen a day out on the water, never had a steering wheel put into it, nor ever been titled/tabbed. boat came on the galvanized escort trailer. there are a few manufacturer defects. it looks like the molding was bad when they put it together, no those arn't gouges in the side, just a few blemishes where the molding went bad. comes with all the parts though, yay

Even came with the 1985 brochure

I dont know which boat to call it, because it has never been finished the Capri 1400 was the cruiser, and the trophy was the fishing version. same exact hull but different floor/seating setups but its all there. came with everything to make a complete boat even extra parts from other bayliner boat versions

Specs for boat, Gunwale length 14'4" (4.37m) centerline length 13'6" (4.11m) beam 5'10" (1.78m), weight w/50 hp force outboard, 750lbs (350kg) hp rating 50, draft outboard up 6" (.15m) draft outboard down 1'8" (.51m) bridge clearance 2'7" (.79m)

Holy crap! I remember those boats. I was just married in '85. Half of my friends had a Bayliner Capri with Force engines. I wanted one so bad I almost drove my wife crazy. Then I bought one. First "brand new" boat I ever owned. I had it less than a year. The wife made me sell it. I guess "Do whatever the hell you want to" didn't mean what I thought. Explains why I'm divorced now...

I had a ton of fun with that boat though! Toss up a pic or too...

Good luck with it!

So i started doing cardboard cut outs so i could make the box housing for the steering console. here is the boat washed up a bit too. Along with the blemishes up close on the sides of the boat. check out the run of where the resin is on the inside of the boat.

Nice job on the boxes, just need to carpet them or something. Just need to figure out how to build seats for the bow.

Are you the one selling the boat found on this craigslist ad or did you just purchase it from the ad? I ask because i am very interested (and emailed the ad poster) in the boat and noticed in your first pics the steering box was missing and in your latest ones you have started construction. In the craigslist ad it shows the steering boxes just as they are found here in your posting.

the ad:

Thanks

Nice.... That thing is a virgin. Not even a screw hole for the bow light yet. No doubt it's a Capri and not a Trojan. One thing I can say is when you're done, you're going to love it. A lot of people didn't give Bayliner much credit back then and said they made junk boats. But the truth is they made boats people could afford. They were smarter than most think. All you had to do was take care of it.

Looks like you've made some good progress in a short time. Keep us up to date....

haha who said anything about a Trojan? it says Bayliner "TROPHY" or is that a joke cause you called it a virgin? haha, To the guy who asked if that was my ad, yes it is. Im picked it up so i could fix it... once complete its worth more then what i am asking as is. as for the molding on the boat, simple sanding, and fiberglass work it will be good as new. just takes time

What cool find! How's the restoration going?

I have a 1986 1410 Capri in the FISH & SKI layout and love it. Here are some pictures in case you're looking for finish-out ideas...

What happend the thread just sort of died.. I have my interior stripped but I Am concerned about the stringers. They appear solid except at the very rear of the bilge and one is a little rotten up front at the frame directly ahead of the ski locker... Can I remove the bad sections and cut then glass in replacement wood in the bad section only or do I have to replace the whole stringer? Also Are you folks putting cloth over the floor after you seal it and set it down then covering with epoxy or are you just sealing the deck and putting epoxy and cloth at the seams?

He decided it was more of a project than he wanted, and sold the boat and trailer.
