Think I Messed Something Up

I recently replaced my bellows and impeller. I did nothing with the shift cable, only pulled it out far enough to swing the bell housing aside. Now I cant get the throttle to come out of foward. It pulls up about half way and bninds up. Also the prop shaft spins freely both directions (even though the boat is in foward). What could I have done wrong and what can I do to fix it? Thank you.

Any idea what may have happened? Ive done the impeller several times without any issue. This is the first time I did the bellows though. Im unclear as to how that cable can slide out a foot and slide back in without screwing something up. Or could it maybe be something simpler?

When you put the drive back on , the shift slide may have come unconnected from the arm.

Doc nailed it! That happened to me the other day. The shift slide wasn't lined up in the arm. I found when you put it in forward to put the drive on, put it just into forward not to far. Check the gimble and make sure they're lined up and the drive is in forward too, so the shoe lines up. good luck

I gotta wait until tomorow to re-assemble it, gotta get new gaskets. I was under the impression that the throttle had to be all the way down to remove or install the drive...

Put it just into forward and go back and look at the shift slide/arm, make sure the roller is in the slot and the shoe at the bottom of the shaft is facing straight back so the drive shift rod will slide into it. If it goes to far the the arm can come out of the slot on the cable end.

sometimes a glob of grease help hole the arm and slide together.
