Re: 1980 70 HP Johnson Seahorse

any idea what your top speed is?

The next time I take it out (have a few days rain here now) - I'll bring my handheld GPS and see if I can get an estimated top speed at WOT. I keep forgetting to bring it along and try that out. I know it's powerful enough to pull a raft/skier or two, and creates one heck of a wake and tail when it's full on.

EDIT: Andy, I just read through your boat restore thread - way cool, very interesting. I like the homebrew jobs done by what's available.

Topol, I want to see pics! :) I tried googling that and it came up empty.

Andy, it clocked in with the GPS at 31-32 MPH. That had two adults and three kids (two 9yo, one 3yo) in the boat (everyone but me in the nose/bow section). I might squeak more out of it if I wanted (the prop is sorta dinged up, and I think I do need to rebuild the carbs) -- but as I said before, I'm not terribly interested in WOT - we mostly just putter to a spot then drift, rinse repeat - or fish a spot anchored.

Zoob, I posted an inquiry to the iboats members that came up empty as well. I have a feeling the boat may be specific to my general area as I've seen multiple boats come up the same. I'm happy with it, when Photobucket finishes uploading the pics I have so far, I'll send you the link. No photos of it in the water so far though :( (had it in once, never left the dock....need new shift linkage which I have to fabricate)

here's the link. My Boat Project

Well, your motor definitely looks familiar. :D

The dash on your boat looks like a Thunderbird boat a friend of mine has - one big long dash, big cavity at the feet.

Your crap rain came my way - it's been raining non stop the past couple weeks. Give me my sun back when you're done with it, please.
