Re: 1996 90hp Evinrude V4 Stall/Surge Free Beer! Fixed!
190 bucks. Not too bad for an ultra-sonic cleaning, timing adjustment, and 30 minute sea-trial.
Now, one more question! Haha. I cranked it up in the driveway tonight since I plan on taking it out tomorrow, and it started fine. I let it run for 2 minutes at 1000 rpm; then ran it up in neutral to 2500. I brought it back down, but it did not want to go back to 1000rpm and stuck at 1500 rpm. I cut it off - restarted - and the motor went back down to 1000 rpm. I then brought it back up to 2500-3000 rpm, and then tried to get it back to 1000, and again, it would not decelerate past 1500 to 1000 rpm. Cut it off and restarted, and it went back to the normal 1000 (whick the guy told me he set it to). I am going to put it under a load tomorrow, but does this sounds right?
I know you are supposed to set the idle with backpressure (which the guy did); but why when I bring it back down on the muffs, will it not go back to 1000, but rather stick at 1500, until you cut it off and restart it?
Also now I hear a slight ticking/light knocking when it is idling at 1500 when bringing it back from 2500. Normal 2-stroke?
Thanks again for all the terrific help!
P.S. Pay for the ultra-sonic cleaning. An overnight bath in power-tune DOES NOT CLEAN CARBS! I learned this the hard way!
