Re: cavitation

We need more information. What boat? What outboard? How is the outboard mounted on the transom? Photos would be good, too, if you can manage that.

Re: cavitation

I think CA main point there is that we have no idea how to help that situation without looking at it. Take a few pictures of the transom, the mount and where the c plate is at in relation to the transom.

With the information you gave (even the second bit) all I could recommend at this point would be a jack plate, but I have a hinting suspicion that you have no desire to put that kind of money just to drop the engine a couple inches...;)

Some outboards are bolted on the transom, not clamped on. What is the outside measurement from the top of the transom to the bottom of the boat?

We can't see your boat, so you have to supply the information we need to help you. Without the measurements and other information, there's not a lot we can tell you.

Re: cavitation

Just out of curiosity...does the prop currently cavitate when given power?

Also, does the engine have any adjustments where the bolts go through the transome to lower? Basically, do the "hooks" you mention sit flat on the transom?

Re: cavitation

Re: cavitation

I'm guessing it has manual tilt on it...have you tried different tilt settings? Does it give the same response?

Although the more I hear, the more it sounds like that engine needs to be lowered...and I dont know many ways around that without digging into the transom, new engine, or jackplate...

Re: cavitation

That's a long transom boat, and you have a short shaft outboard. Unless you install a jack plate to lower the outboard or do a cutout for it in the transom, you'll continue to have the same problem.

Those are the options, aside from getting rid of your short shaft engine and getting a longshaft one.

Re: cavitation

I googled "jack plate for small outboard" and got all kinds of responses...

I even found another thread on iboats about it...do a quick search, start comparing prices.
