I have a 83ish 60hp Merc. I took the lower unit off to change the waterpump.
looked at reinstalling the lower unit- and stuck in the slot where the driveshaft goes, were two small parts (one plastic and one rubber) both shaped with splines, like they go on the upper spline of the drive shaft. Are they some sort of gasket / seal connecting the drive shaft to the upper unit?
Does anyone know what direction / order these go back on in? I use the Svc manual regularly and couldn't find reference to either of these. I've checked a ton of threads and can't find any mention of them....
